Federal meth case opened against Galesburg man

A federal case has been opened against a Galesburg man facing meth charges in Peoria.

According to the Peoria U.S. District Court, 51-year-old Kent E. Morgan will appear for a bond hearing tomorrow afternoon. A complaint of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams of meth against Morgan is set for grand jury consideration.

Morgan was arrested in January at the Peoria International Airport with 94 grams of what Peoria Multi-County Narcotics Enforcement Group agents call “ice,” a form of meth.

He was transporting the drug from a Las Vegas airport into Illinois.

State charges, including meth trafficking and possession of meth with intent to deliver, were dropped when the case went federal.

Morgan appeared Monday in federal court. The appointed public defender has withdrawn from the case and it is not immediately known if Morgan has hired private counsel.
