Galesburg man arrested on pot, cocaine charges

Police arrested a Galesburg man yesterday on drug charges after a traffic stop led to the discovery of more than 250 grams of cannabis and a small amount of cocaine.

Christopher Alfaro appeared today in Knox County Circuit Court. The 19-year- old is accused of possession with intent to deliver between 30 and 500 grams of pot and less than 15 grams of a controlled substance. Additionally, he faces possession charges for both drugs.

According to police reports, officers pulled over a Ford Taurus at Monmouth Boulevard and McClure Street that was late signaling a turn. When police approached, they detected the smell of cannabis from the vehicle.

Alfaro, who was in the passenger seat, told police he had cannabis in his possession. Officers found 118.9 grams of pot, 133 grams of hash oil and 8.2 grams of cocaine in the vehicle. Police arrested both Alfaro and the driver, however, Assistant State’s Attorney Stephanie Hilton says the no charges have been filed against the driver.

Alfaro is held on $25,000 bond awaiting a June 1 court date. Judge Stephen Mathers appointed a public defender to the case.
