Police have charged a Galesburg man with driving under the influence after he crashed into the storefront of Brighter Life Bookshoppe last night.
According to police reports, 22-year-old James Montenaro was headed west on East Simmons Street shortly after 11 p.m., when he ran a red light at the Kellogg Street intersection, causing a collision with another driver who was southbound.
The collision resulted in Montenaro’s vehicle crashing into Brighter Life and causing what police say was “superficial damage.”
The report said Montenaro had a blood alcohol content of .160. He told police he had been drinking at Cherry Street bar, prior to the crash. No injuries were reported.
Montenaro was additionally charged for disobeying a traffic control device and was given a traffic citation.
