Retired instructor Jim Graham receives Sandburg’s Distinguished Service Award

A man who taught political science at Carl Sandburg College for 30 years was honored at the school’s annual commencement exercises last week. 

Jim Graham was given the Distinguished Service Award last Thursday.

During his tenure from 1979-2010, he advised Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the International Students Society and for his final 13 years was associate dean of social behavioral sciences.

On three separate occasions he was named the College’s Faculty Member of Year in 1985, 88 and 89.Grah

am is an also avid runner who has finished 20 marathons including four in Boston.

He lent his road running expertise to the Chargers as Assistant Cross Country coach from 2005-10.

Graham now resides in his mom state of Michigan with wife, Claudia.
