One arrested for May fire at Henderson County farm

An arrest has been made in the May 22nd fire that resulted in damage to the Wyatt Family Dairy Farm in western Illinois.

According to a press release from Henderson County Sheriff Steven Haynes, 27-year-old Dalton B. Smith of Lomax was arrested on three counts of arson, and one count of unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle.

He is in the Henderson County Jail on $100,000 bond. All of the charges against him are Class 2 Felonies, which carry a 3 to 5 year prison term.

It is alleged that Haynes set fire to fire to multiple buildings at the dairy farm, causing damage. It is also alleged that Smith was in possession of a stolen ATV from rural Lomax that was taken on May 12th.

Investigating and making the arrest were the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Dallas City Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, and the Illinois State Police.

A motive is unknown at this time.
