Street Rods and GHS Streaks being featured today to start your weekend.

The River 2 River Cruise rolls back into downtown Galesburg Friday, August 17th featuring hundreds of vintage cars, street rods, trucks, antiques and special interest vehicles. Last year, the Cruise featured over 1500 vehicles. The event is free and will be held rain or shine. Organizer Pam Bowles tells WGIL it will also feature a raffle for a $600 grill from Lowe’s and more. “We have Big Cats BBQ from Knoxville; we have Smokin’ Willies from Galesburg,” Bowles said. “We guarantee to give away at least $1,000 – that’s what we have sold so far in tickets. We will have them for sale on Friday. There are five tickets in a book for $20. (So) it could go up to $5,000.” Streets downtown will begin to be shut down at noon Friday with the event officially beginning at 1:00pm until 10:00 pm.

Meet the Streaks is also tonight out at Van Dyke Field beginning at 5:45 pm. Come out and meet all the student athletes for the upcoming fall season. The GHS Athletic Boosters have brought back the Booster Club Tailgate from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm for the scrimmage Friday. Families are welcome to join the tailgate for a paid membership to help support GHS sports.

The First Christian Church in Galesburg will be hosting it’s 3rd Annual Community Concert Saturday night. Neil Unger and Chris Maurer with First Christian Church tell WGIL this year the concert will feature Phil and Pam Morgan. “This is actually the third year that we’ve done it,” Unger said. “It was something that we wanted people to feel they could bring their children to and such, and this year we have Phil and Pam Morgan.”  “They have wonderful music,” Maurer said. “They’ve been in Galesburg a few times before – (like the) Saturday Night Live in Jesus. They actually have a following in Galesburg. They’re very good.” The husband and wife duo have been touring for over 20 years while recording hundreds of gospel songs and releasing three albums. 18 years ago, Pam was nearly left paralyzed from the chest down from an auto accident, but after making an incredible recovery, returned to the stage and is back on her feet. The concert begins at 7:00 pm for a free will offering, and the Morgans will have albums for sale as well as copies of their two books: The Inspiration Station and Puddles of Joy. First Christian Church is located on the corner of North Broad and North Street in Galesburg with a handicap-accessible entrance facing North Street.
