Early college program for high school seniors introduced by Knox College

High-achieving high school students from the Galesburg and ROWVA school districts may have an opportunity to take courses at Knox College as part of the educator’s early college program in the next academic year.

The new program will give access to a broader variety of courses during a high school student’s senior year than what most high schools can offer while also giving students higher levels of study in fields that they may already be taking classes in.

Eligible students must be in the top 10-percent of their high school class and have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.8.

The program will provide a scholarship to cover the tuition of each course, so students will only be responsible for the costs of textbooks and other class materials.

Paul Steenis, vice president for enrollment and dean of admission, says the program, “is invaluable for high school students who want to pursue a college education. He adds that, “students will be able to experience a liberal arts education first-hand, which will give them a better framework to work from during the college selection process.”

Additionally, students who decide to pursue higher education at Knox will automatically be admitted and receive $30,000 per year in merit scholarships to help cover the tuition. Students who choose to go elsewhere in higher education will be able to transfer their college credits to the school the end up choosing.

Applicants must apply by April 1st.
