Abingdon man charged after drug bust

UPDATED  The Knox County Sheriffs Department says a months-long investigation involving multiple agencies has resulted in an Abingdon man being busted on nine felony drug charges.

A sheriffs detective testified in court Thursday that Galesburg and Abingdon Police along with sheriffs deputies used a search warrant Wednesday to get into a home and garage in the 400 block of North Austin Avenue in Abingdon. The detective says investigators discovered methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana in the garage, along with several drugs in the home and more than $11,000 in cash. The drugs had a combined street value of nearly $14,000.

60-year-old Russell Ray has been charged with multiple Class-X felony counts of Aggravated Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, and Class-X felony counts of Possession of Meth with Intent to Deliver, and possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver. The Aggravated Possession charges carry a maximum 40 year prison sentence each if convicted.

Ray is being held in the Knox County Jail on $150,000 bond, and will be back in court for a preliminary hearing April second.
