Rootabaga Jazz Festival hits the town this week

The 39th Annual Knox-Rootabaga Jazz Festival returns this week starting Tuesday.

The festival is a partnership between Knox College, the Galesburg community, and local music and arts supporters.

The festival emphasizes collaborations between guest musicians and students with performances around the community.

Performances kick off tomorrow with Nikki Malley Quintet with the United High School jazz and concert band at United High School at 7:00 p.m. – the show is free and open to the public.

The quintet will tour seven area schools performing for elementary, junior high and high school students tomorrow and Wednesday.

Things pick back up Thursday with a Faculty and Friends Combo of Knox’s jazz faculty and local jazz performers at Fat Fish Pub from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Friday is the GHS Jazz Band at 7:00 p.m., the Knox Alumni Big Band at 8:00 p.m., followed by the Xavier Breaker Coalition at 9:30 p.m. at Fat Fish.
