Galesburg Clean-up Days starts this week

Spring cleaning is in full swing this week as the City of Galesburg holds their clean-up days April 8th through the 12th.

During this week, residential refuse customers are encouraged to place items on the curb on the regular refuse pickup day by 6:00 a.m. to take advantage of the free pick-up provided by Waste Management.

All loose items will need to be bagged or bundled while cumbersome items, such as playground sets or antenna towers, should be broken down or disassembled. Doors on large appliances should be removed for the safety of Waste Management workers.

Yard waste is not included in the event and should be disposed of within the guidelines in the Recycling and Solid Waste Brochure.

There is a hefty list of restricted items includes liquid paint, auto batteries, motor oils, tires, FAX machines, computer equipment, televisions, and many other household electronics.

Clean-up week is funded by the city’s refuse customers and is provided to residents with an active refuse account. Waste from business and out of town sources is prohibited.

The city also says that scavenging items from the curb is not allowed and violators can be fined.
