Man charged with pulling gun on police officer

A Stark County resident is jailed in Henry County after allegedly pulling a gun on a police officer a week ago.

Police in Kewanee are just now releasing details of the incident which happened last Saturday night, April 13 — which started when someone was believed to be spotted switching license plates on cars at a gas station and a nursing home both on the city’s south side.

Authorities say when a police sergeant approached 29-year-old Tyler Demunyk of Bradford, he got out of the car he was in and pulled what turned out to be a loaded 380-caliber gun on the officer, but later dropped it.

The gun was recovered, and Kewanee Police say no shots were fired either by Demunyk or the officer.

Demunyk was taken to the Henry County Jail, where court records indicate he faces felony charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, along with a misdemeanor count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

A public defender has been appointed to represent Demunyk, and the man remains jailed on $250,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday.  Police have released body camera video of the incident, which you can see below.
