Record Number of Gifts Made on Monmouth College Scots Day of Giving

Monmouth College hosted the school’s 3rd Annual Scots Day of Giving on Wednesday, April 17th where a record number of gifts were given. According to a news release from the college, more than 900 hearts filled the windows of the Mellinger Commons on the first floor of the Center for Science and Business. Each heart represents a gift made to the College which totaled $255,664 – blowing out previous years’ gifts by over $30,000. The gifts go to support scholarships for students and academic and student life initiatives. The initiatives included three that were created by Monmouth faculty: virtual reality equipment for the biology department; a digital propaganda center proposed by communication studies faculty; and the Chorale’s 2020 performance tour of Vienna, Prague, and Salzburg. The other three initiatives supported the Fighting Scots Society athletics booster club; senior class project to install more water-bottle fillers on campus, and the Parent and Family Council project to add more Scott Cruisers bicycles to campus. Vice President for Development and College Relations John Osterlund said the Scots Day of Giving helps support the “robust culture of philanthropy among the College’s alumni, friends, faculty and staff.”
