One dead in commercial vehicle vs farm equipment collision

UPDATE:  A Macomb man has died following a crash on US Highway 67 involving a commercial motor vehicle and a farm tractor.

According to the Illinois State Police, officers were called out to the stretch of highway between Macomb and Good Hope at around 1:09 p.m.

State Police say that 64-year-old Timothy Sullivan was transported to McDonogh District Hospital by ambulance and then life-flighted to OSF St. Francis.  State Police say Sullivan died at the Peoria hosptial.

A second driver, 28-year-old Gregory Jones of Nevada, Iowa, was not injured but was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

State Police say that both drivers were northbound on US 67, about to approach the intersection of County Road 1700, when Jones, in a Kenworth Box Truck, was approaching Sullivan, in a John Deere tractor, from behind when the truck struck the rear of the tractor.

The impact was said to have caused Jones’ truck to leave the road and enter the median, where it came to rest. Sullivan’s tractor sustained extensive damage and he was ejected as a result of the impact.

Assisting the state police were the McDonough County Sheriff’s Office, Air Evac Lifeteam, Lifeguard Ambulance Service, Good Hope Fire Department, and the Macomb Fire Department.
