Wrong-way driver ticketed for Saturday accident on I-74

A Quad Cities resident is facing some charges after causing Interstate 74 in part of Henry County to all but completely come to a standstill for several hours on Saturday.

Illinois State Police say 24-year-old Tyler N. Vanalsburg of Bettendorf, Iowa ended up driving the wrong way down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 74 near Andover Saturday morning at approximately 8:20am. The driving caused a semi going the right direction to end up in the median and at one point, fully engulfed in flames.

State Police say the eastbound lanes of 74 were closed down for at least two hours due to clean up, but listeners told us it seemed as if the westbound lands also were impacted for awhile.

Both Vanalsburg and the unidentified semi driver were taken to hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. Vanalsburg was ticketed for Driving Under the Influence and Driving the Wrong Way on the Interstate.
