Preliminary hearing set in Galesburg man’s drug case

A Galesburg man facing three drug felonies had his preliminary hearing set for July 16th.

40-year-old Tavarse L. Buckley made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court on Friday where his bond was set at $3,000 – he would post bond on Monday.

Buckley faces three felony counts, the most severe being a Class 1 charge of possession of heroin. Additional charges include two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

He was arrested Thursday morning after Galesburg Police officers allegedly found three grams of what would field-test positive for cocaine and an additional 10 grams of what later tested positive for heroin.

A police report indicates that Buckley has been convicted 10 times in the past for dangerous drugs.

He was appointed a public defender during his detention hearing on Friday.
