Police arrest Aledo man for Walmart theft

An Aledo man is held on $10,000 bond after Galesburg police arrested him this morning on charges of retail theft and driving on a suspended license.

According to police reports, Walmart employees spotted 31-year-old Ryan J. Deroo around 2 a.m. today pushing a cart full of electronics and clothing out to his 2010 Kia sedan in the store’s parking lot.

A witness saw Deroo loading his vehicle up with goods believed to be stolen before the suspect drove around the parking lot, re-parked, and re-entered the store.

When police arrived, Deroo had two big screen TVs packed into a shopping cart. He told officers he intended to purchase the TVs and denied stealing anything.

Deroo was taken into custody and booked on retail theft of more than $300 in addition to a suspended license citation.

In Deroo’s vehicle, police observed a $268 40-inch Emerson TV, a $158 RCA home theater system, and nearly $500 in men’s clothing as well as other items.
