Galesburg to be latest focus area for Clinton Foundation health initiative

The Galesburg area is planned as one of several “focus communities” in a Clinton Foundation health initiative that aims to reduce health disparities and promote healthy living.

The Clinton Foundation is holding its fifth annual Health Matters Activation Summit, to be moderated in part by Foundation President Bill Clinton, on Monday in Indian Wells, California.

According to the foundation website, Galesburg is joining the areas of Little Rock, Arkansas; Houston, Texas and Jacksonville, Florida among others as part of the Clinton Heath Matters Initiative.

The initiative claims to convene with “key stakeholders” in regions affected by chronic disease before taking action that would close gaps in health disparities.

The Clinton Foundation has seen some scrutiny lately following an FBI investigation into possible public corruption law violations.

Participants in Monday’s summit include Women’s World Cup champ and Olympic gold medalist Abby Wambach, Clinton Foundation Founder Chelsea Clinton and health experts from around the country.

WGIL will have more information on CHMI’s involvement in Galesburg as it becomes available.
