Family hiring policy returns to council agenda tonight

The city hiring policy specifically regarding family members working in the same department could be changed tonight.

Galesburg City Council members are expected to discuss the policy which includes an anti-nepotism clause barring family in the same department.

Council tabled the item in October of last year after differing opinions among aldermen.

According to council documents, a favorable vote tonight would slightly revise the policy by clarifying its language. The changes clarify information “according to changes in state and federal law.”

City Manager Todd Thompson has recommended the policy changes be made.

Also on tonight’s agenda include the appointment of attorney’s Wayne Statham and Chad Long as Administrative Hearing Officers. The appointment is a result of the Administrative Adjudication hearing program set up to handle minor violations outside of court.

Council meets tonight inside City Hall at 6:30 p.m.
