New app lets users check school menus in District 205

Along with the revamped District 205 website that rolled out last week, the Galesburg school district now allows smartphone and web users to check school breakfast and lunch menus online.

Pamela Webber is the 205 food service director. She tells WGIL the apps let people do more than just see what meals are on the menu.

“Once you go in and you look at the menus,” Webber says, “you’re gonna have each menu item that’s highlighted in blue and when you put the cursor over that menu item, its gonna bring up the nutritional information about it.”

From there, people can look up additional information that can affect students with special diets.

“It also will show if they go into the area with special diet info,” Webber says, “it will show allergy items that are included in the allergies of milk, egg, wheat, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish if the person goes in and clicks those boxes.”

The app, called School Lunch by Nutrislice, is available to Android users in the Google Play store and to iPhone users in the App Store. The same information in the app can also be found at Galesburg205.org.
