Questions remain unanswered around A-town school data breach

Questions still swirl around an investigation into an Abingdon-Avon school district data breach.

No new apparent developments came out of last night’s District 276 board meeting regarding the investigation where dissatisfied crowds showed yet again.

For the second month in a row over 100 community members filled the Hedding Grade School for the meeting anxious for details on who breached data, why and the costs associated with finding answers.

During public comments several addressed the board, lambasting them for secrecy regarding the investigation.

Comments were mostly centered around a perceived lack of transparency by the board and administration.

A District 276 news release on May 4 said that a consulting firm was hired to “investigate” changes made to student grades.

Superintendent Chad Willis who has consistently denied requests to comment on the investigation gave a report on A-town’s next school year with possibly no state funds.

He says they can make it through the entire next school year on reserves thanks to the district’s long held frugality.

Willis says between the 04-05 school year and 13-14 the district’s spending only went up $10,000.

“There isn’t too many districts in the state that can say they kept their level of spending the same over a ten year period,” Willis says. “We are watching every single dollar the best that we can.”

A district employee who wished to remain anonymous says Director of Technology Mark Rogers remains on administrative leave with no word on his future with the district.
