A-Town schools hire two interim superintendents

Abingdon-Avon schools will have two interim superintendents next year after the school board formally accepted superintendent Chad Willis’ resignation last night.

Bill Rees and Don Daily, both retired heads of area districts, will cover the duties at different times in the year.

The A-Town board wasted little time securing the pair, approving the appointments 11 days after Willis formally announced his leaving to become superintendent of Indian Creek District 425.

Board member Dedra Mannon tells WGIL, when a school district doesn’t have a Superintendent it’s something that needs to be addressed as “quickly as possible.”

“I think with us going from one superintendent going on to a good job opportunity, we need to do what’s best for the children in our school and make sure we have people in place that can pick up where we left off and keep the best interest of our kids in place,” Mannon says.

Rees spent 25 years as Warren schools’ superintendent and most recently finished the year as interim superintendent of Mercer County.

Daily is retired from Monmouth District 38 and Monmouth-Roseville District 238

Rees and Daily’s retirement requires they work no more than 100 days a year.

Interim stints for the two will be split somewhere in the middle of the 180 day school year, but according to Mannon exact dates have yet to be decided.

Mannon says the district’s investigation into a data breach continues and Director of Technology Mark Rogers remains on paid administrative leave.
