Bond set at $100,000 for Galesburg man busted with meth

Police arrested a Galesburg man early this morning after he was found with meth and meth production items during a routine a traffic stop.

In Knox County Circuit Court this afternoon, Judge Stephen Mathers set bond at $100,000 for 30-year-old Michael Christopher Yahnke. Assistant State’s Attorney Sabrina Stroops argued for a $250,000 bond for a prior meth manufacturing conviction but it was denied.

Yahnke was apprehended shortly before 1:40 a.m. in the parking lot of Grand Liquor when he twice failed to signal for turns.

Police found probable cause for a search and seized a number of meth making items ranging from lithium batteries to pseudoephedrine pills and coffee filters. Yahnke was also found with more than 15 grams of meth in his possession and a small amount of marijuana.

The Galesburg man faces felony possession and felony manufacturing charges, the latter of which is the most serious and could result up to 30 years in prison. He was additionally charged for cannabis possession and for failure to signal.

Mathers appointed a public defender in the case and scheduled Yahnke’s next court date for Wednesday at 11 a.m.
