Kehoe Eye Care expansion to cover most of 4-L Plaza

Kehoe Eye Care will be expanding their business in the 4-L Plaza, almost doubling floor space.
Dr. Pete Kehoe, who is the owner of the plaza, says the timing for expansion was right between the 4-L Plaza Laundromat closing a year ago and Hammer’s General Feed Store shuttering in July.

He tells WGIL it’s too soon to know if this will mean more jobs but this will allow the practice to further their pursuit of “not just serving eyes, but people.”

“The goal is to essentially create an eye care practice that our community deserves which is kind of expanding upon our technology but also just a really great environment to have great eye care,” Kehoe says.

The practice should only be closed for a weekend to prepare for an expected February or March 2017 opening.

They’ll be able to gut and construct the additional space to their needs and then move equipment over a few days.

Kehoe says nearly doubling the square footage, from about 6,000 sq. ft to around 12,000, will primarily allow the eye practice to be more efficient.

The eye wear dispensary is expected to grow too, particularly the sunglass and specialty eye wear collection.

Kehoe says they’ll likely be able to see a few more patients a day as well.

Architects have measured the space and have rendered basic designs but now out-of-town designers with expertise in designing eye practices will get to work.
Kehoe says they’re hoping to use as many Galesburg architects and contractors as possible.
