The development of the new YMCA downtown location is continuing and tonight, Galesburg City Council will likely vote on distributing special funding for the project.
A TIF request has been made by MAK properties. The reimbursement, generally used to entice businesses, would be in the amount of around $206,000 for the Wells Fargo building, where the Y is being put in.
According to council documents, the renovation is expected to cost nearly $950,000.
In a June interview with WGIL, Y CEO Adam Sampson said he expected to open the downtown facility in September. The project is a complete 10,000 sq. ft. renovation of the first floor.
In other business, an approval to complete bid documents for the construction of a new Street Department storage building and sign shop is expected.
The property would be on 122. S. Henderson Street. Tonight’s roughly $18,000 agreement with Prairie Forge Group would revise bid documents to be up to code and to bid the sign shop and storage building separately.
Council meets tonight at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall.
