Coroner’s inquest scheduled for train and drowning fatalities

Henry County Coroner David Johnson will hold an inquest with jurors Monday to formally determine the cause of death for a 65 year old man who died in a train crash and for a 17 year old boy who is believed to have drown to death.

The train wreck killed Stanley “Rodney” Dorman of Kewanee in April, after a semi he was driving was struck by an Amtrak train on Hayes Road near Galva. Dorman was pronounced dead at the scene.

No passengers on the train were seriously injured.

In the second fatality, Tyler J. John of Rock Island was found dead this past May in an Orion pool. John is believed to have drown while swimming at the Hillcrest Resort and there has been controversy surrounding whether or not the pool should have been closed off due to licensing issues.

The inquest is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Henry County Courthouse.
