New chamber director calls tourism an untapped resource for Galesburg

Jessica Linder has barely moved into her office as the Galesburg Chamber of Commerce’s new Executive Director.

The Morton native says she plans on spending her first few months getting acclimated to the town and meeting with business, chamber and community members.

Still, she has eyes on increasing programming for the chamber and driving up involvement.

She mentions conversations with the board, wishing that the chamber could be more visible in the public.

Specifically, drawing on her background in hospitality management, she tells WGIL that tourism is a kind of untapped resource in Galesburg.

“I’m really excited to start working with our convention and visitors bureau and with the director over there and really  figure out how we’re supporting the businesses that are in tourism and make sure they have what they need to grow and start to see that kind of thrive,” Linder says.

The Chamber shares office space with the Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development.

Linder says she wants to help align different organizations in the area to make sure that they share development visions and goals.

Overall, Linder feels that Galesburg has a lot of potential and she personally has taken a liking to it.

She just bought a house and calls Galesburg a “really cute town.”
