Shots fired in three weekend incidents

Galesburg police responded to three shooting incidents early yesterday morning, one of which resulted in the arrest of a Galesburg man on gun charges.

Thirty-four-year-old Latori McAlister is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon.

According to police reports, authorities heard 10 gun shots and found a number of shell casings near the intersection of E. Tompkins Street and S. Kellogg Street around 1 a.m. Sunday.

In Knox County Circuit Court this afternoon, Assistant State’s Attorney Sabrina Stroops read aloud a narrative that alleged McAlister shot at a car being driven by his wife’s boyfriend. Stroops indicated the couple have been separated.

McAlister also allegedly pointed the weapon at his wife’s head and threatened her. Judge Stephen Mathers set bond this afternoon at $250,000 and appointed a public defender in the case.

Meanwhile an hour earlier Sunday, officers heard 10 gun shots in the 500 block of W. Brooks Street and an additional five shots just north on Monmouth Boulevard minutes after.

To this point, the three shootings have not been officially connected, though tire tracks were found in a yard between Brooks Street and Monmouth Boulevard. An investigation is on-going.
