President Obama endorses U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, a Democrat from Moline, is campaigning against Patrick Harlan of Galesburg for a third term. Today, Bustos announced President Barack Obama is endorsing her.

In a statement, Obama calls Bustos “a fighter for the middle class” and has worked to help Illinois families.

Bustos has also been endorsed by Vice President Joe Biden along with teachers unions, the Illinois Farm Bureau and the Peoria Journal Star.

Harlan, a truck driver and president of the Knoxville Tea Party, is fighting to win her seat.

He says under Bustos’ watch, people in her district have lost jobs and have seen an increase in poverty and crime.

Harlan has been endorsed by Chicago GOP Chairman Chris Cleveland and former congressman Joe Walsh.

Bustos has also been mentioned as a possible 2018 Democratic gubernatorial candidate against Republican Governor Bruce Rauner, although she has said she is focusing on her 17th District race at this time.
