Galesburg woman gets $75,000 bond for meth possession

A Galesburg woman picked up on a warrant Friday by Abingdon police has a $75,000 bond for possessing a small amount of meth.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jennifer Niles had that bond continued yesterday in Knox County Circuit Court.

Niles is charged with meth possession under five grams. Judge Stephen Mathers questioned why the State’s Attorney’s office asked for such a high bond, to which Assistant State’s Attorney Sabrina Stoops said was due to a string of prior meth offenses.

Niles has a total bond of $77,500. An additional $2,500 warrant was issued for failing to appear on three parking tickets.

According to a Galesburg police report, Niles was originally only cited for the parking offenses in June. The passenger of her car, 38-year-old Letha Reynolds, was arrested for meth possession.

Lab tests later determined Niles had a substance in the vehicle that contained meth which lead to the warrant.

Mathers appointed Niles a public defender. She will re-appear in court tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
