Taser allegedly used in weekend attack

A Galesburg man is charged with felony aggravated battery, felony mob action and unlawful use of a weapon, following a weekend attack near the Galesburg Public Library.

Twenty-two-year-old Jared Rasso was arrested early Saturday morning near South Cherry and Simmons Street. He is accused of using a Taser twice on a 23-year-old man in an attack where he also allegedly hit the victim causing scrapes and cuts.

According to a police report, another man was involved but has yet to be apprehended. The report says Rasso reportedly yelled and screamed at the man in an area bar and used the Taser inside the establishment.

Rasso and the other suspect followed the victim toward the library where the Taser was used again.

In Knox County Circuit Court yesterday, Judge Stephen Mathers set bond at $20,000 and appointed a public defender. Rasso is due back in court tomorrow at 9 a.m.
