Sandburg President Sundberg takes job at Kirkwood Community College

Lori Sundberg has accepted another job, as president of Kirkwood Community College.Carl Sandburg College’s president has been in her role since 2010 and was the community college’s first female president.

Kirkwood is based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa but has eight satellite campuses across Iowa and has an enrollment of about 26,000 students.

Sundberg says it was a “difficult” and “emotional’ decision, particularly being a native of Galesburg and a Carl Sandburg graduate.

However, she calls the chance to lead Kirkwood a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity.

A special meeting of Sandburg’s Board of Trustees will convene on Jan. 18  to start the search for her replacement.

Thursday is when Kirkwood’s Board is expected to make Sundberg’s hiring official.

She revealed last month that she was one of four finalists for the job and she said was contacted by a consultant leading the search for the new president, and was encouraged to apply .

Sundberg is only the sixth president in Carl Sandburg College’s history.
