Carl Sandburg College adds first guaranteed admission for transfers – online.

Chargers can now more easily become Sun Devils. Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg has added another 4-year university to help graduates easily transfer to obtain a bachelor’s degree.

The Arizona State University guaranteed admission program simplifies the process of transferring.  According to a news release from Carl Sandburg College, the program “equips students with ASU tools and guidance on which courses to take at their respective community college.” Sandburg already has agreements with other four year colleges and universities which include: Western Illinois, U of I Urbana-Champaign, U of I Springfield, Knox, St. Ambrose, Illinois College, ISU, SIU Carbondale, and Monmouth.

Rick Reddy, director of admissions and records for Carl Sandburg College says, some of the agreements with those schools are guaranteed admission, some are not. “This is really the first online program,” Reddy said. “I mean, you can go to lovely Tempe, Arizona… We have a number of students who are place-bound. They can’t just up and move. This is an opportunity to get to a reputable school, and never really leave Knox County.”

Over 50% of Sandburg students are in an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree program where they’re looking to transfer. Sandburg is the first community college outside of the Chicago area to be part of the guaranteed admission program. “I think it’s a great opportunity to get your English done, and get your math and your speech at a lower cost than you would at a four-year (school),” Reddy added. “Then figure out – maybe I do want to go into biology, and this is a great way to do that.” One of three stipulations must be met for guaranteed admission. A student must have: at least 24 transferable semester credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0; or The Illinois Transferable General Education Core Curriculum with a minimum GPA of 2.5; or a transfer associate degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
