Knox County property taxes due Wednesday

The first installment of the property taxes in Knox County are coming up due on Wednesday, June 6th, and there are a handful of things taxpayers should be aware of before the deadline pass.

For starters, payment must be mailed with a postmark no later than the 6th. Payments delivered at the drop boxes on the Knox County Courthouse grounds must be placed into those boxes by 8:30 a.m. of June 7th.

Failure to comply with either of those stipulations will result in a statutory penalty being applied to the taxpayer.

Most major credit and debit cards can be used to pay the real estate taxes, with a fee to the taxpayer, at epayillinois.com . Payments made after the due date must include a penalty of 1.5% per month as provided by Illinois State Statutes. Failure to include the correct amount of penalty will not be accepted.

Payments can also be taken on the phone at 877-690-3729 with the jurisdiction code of 7020. Transactions must be completed by midnight of June 6th.

Credit and debit cards are accepted at the Treasurer’s office with the same service fees applying.

Additionally Knox County banks will be accepting payments, with exception to Wells Fargo.

Any questions may be directed to the Knox County Collector’s office at 309-345-3811 or 345-3812 or 345-3839.
