Carl Sandburg College’s “fresh look” patio almost ready to reopen

The walkway and patio that is adjacent to a large part of the Carl Sandburg College campus are nearing completion on renovations.

The patio space will have a “smoother” concrete surface with portions of the patio getting a patterned stamp.

The purpose of the renovations was to beauty and improve access to an area that overlooks an inlet of Lake Storey.

College CFO and Treasurer Cory Gall says before the area was “pretty dreary.”

He says it’s “really nice” to have a project that beautifies the campus and makes people want to come and stay on the campus.

He adds that now the area where students, faculty, and staff can relax or study will a “more natural, rock-like look.”

It has also been used for student life events like Fall Festival, October Bash and Movie on the Pond, and now that the area is looking spiffier than ever, Sandburg seems to be open to using the patio for more events than ever.

Additionally, the patio will have charging stations for phones and computers and feature improved accessibility to the College’s wireless network.

The renovations began in late May, following the Spring semester, and they expect total completion sometime in the early part of the fall semester, which began on Monday.

Also, a new sidewalk was being put in that stretches from the Student Center in Building B to Building F.
