205 to consider floor plans for Lombard and Steele, Zephyr Dome demolition specifications

The District 205 School Board will be looking at and considering floor plan additions to Lombard Middle School and Steele Elementary at their Monday meeting.

Lombard the new addition built on the school southeastern side. New additions include a new commons, media center, band room, and teacher’s lounge. Currently, the space for the new addition serves as the southern parking lot.

Heavy renovations will be made to several core classrooms, speech, specials, and the kitchen.

Steele will see a new addition built on the building’s south-southwestern side. New rooms include several kindergarten and second-grade classrooms, as well as life skills rooms and offices.

Heavy renovations will be made to the media center, cross-categorical, and stem classrooms.

Steel will also see renovation work to the commons, a conference room, and office.

Board members will also consider the bid specifications for the demolition of the vacant Lombard Gym, known historically as the “Zephyr Dome.”

Another item for the board to consider will be a partnership between the district and the City of Galesburg to build a compliant playground and fitness area, in accordance with the American Disabilities Act, on the property of Lombard Middle School as part of the city’s master plan for parks.

Board documents indicate that the city will contribute $200,000 towards the project, leaving the district on the hook for $88,709.12. District 205 administration wrote a grant through the Illinois State Board of Education and was awarded $75,852 for the project.

Board members will consider contributing the difference, $12,857, towards the project as well as approving the intergovernmental agreement between the two entities.

Board members will have a busy night, as they’ll also be looking at the athletic ticket fee prices, the purchase of a John Deere tractor, laptop purchases for teachers, replacement Chromebook purchase, and revising the Tort Levy.

The board’s open meeting is slated to start at 7:00 p.m. at the Harrison Street offices.
