Two inured, one dead in Fulton County accident

Two people were injured and another was killed after a two-vehicle accident in rural Fulton County.

Fulton County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the accident at the intersection of US Highway 24 and McKinley Road, southeast of Canton on Saturday at around 6:10 p.m.

Once on scene, deputies were notified that one driver, 24-year-old Ronald J. Grzanich Jr of Pekin, was deceased.

The second driver, 62-year-old Steven McMahill of Peoria was extricated from his vehicle and Lifeflighted to OSF St. Mary’s in Peoria. His passenger was also transported to the hospital for injuries sustained.

According to the sheriff’s office, Grzanich’s small truck drove into oncoming traffic and struck McMahll head-on, leading to both vehicles to overturn.

It took three hours to conduct the investigation, remove the vehicles, and assist in the extrication and treatment of the injured parties.

Assisting the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office on the scene were members of the Copperas Creek Fire and Rescue, Buckheart Fire and Rescue, Fulton County EMS, Fulton County Coroner’s Office, and OSF Lifeflight.
