Galesburg man charged with DUI in fatal Fulton Co. crash

A Galesburg man is in the Fulton County Jail on charges of aggravated DUI and several others after being involved in a fatal two-car accident.

According to a release from the Fulton County Sheriff’s office, at around 8:43 pm on Friday, 20-year-old Pedro Orozco was northbound on Illinois Route 97 when he struck a westbound vehicle traveling along Illinois Route 9.

The three unnamed occupants of the westbound vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and two occupants of the northbound vehicle were treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.

Orozco was arrested for aggravated driving under the influence, driving while license suspended, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Additionally, an occupant of Orozco’s vehicle was also cited for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.

The accident remains under investigation with a reconstruction pending. Names are being withheld until family members are notified.

Assisting the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department was the Canton Police Department, Canton Fire Department, Cuba Fire Department, Cass Putman Rescue Squad, Fulton County Ambulance, Life Flight, and Fulton County Coroner’s Office.
