Timetable set for hiring of next Dist. 202 superintendent

A timetable has been set for the search and hiring of the next superintendent for District 202 at a special meeting last night.

Last month the Board of Education approved the hiring of the Illinois Association of School Boards to help facilitate the search and hiring of the replacement for outgoing superintendent Steve Wilder.

Patricia Sullivan-Viniard with IASB told the board that the current timeline will see the deadlines for applicants end on February 4, followed by a week of vetting the applicants by IASB staff before the board sees the best six or so candidates.

“February 11th is another special board meeting for you folks. That’s kind of a ‘biggie,'” Sullivan-Viniard told the board. “That one is done in closed session and that’s where I actually bring the slate of what is usually six candidates — individuals — that we have determined, based on what you’re looking for and who has applied, that our [team believes] that these are the best candidates and that you’re going to have your next superintendent in that slate.”

First-round interviews would be done during the week of February 24, from the six candidates, the board will narrow it down to two or three finalists for the position.

Interviews are to be done over two days between the initial six finalists for the job.

Board members are also considering a stakeholder forum between teachers, residents of the district and the superintendent candidates.

Nothing was officially set in stone but board members considered the week of March forth for the stakeholder meeting.

After the second round of final interviews with the final candidates, the board would make a decision, potentially at their March 16 meeting.

Sullivan-Viniard told the board that there has already been a lot of interest in the position.
