Your Weekend: Documentary Series at the Orpheum; Black Diamond at Knox College

A popular documentary series begins Friday, January 10th at the Orpheum Theatre in Galesburg. The series kicks off with Three identical Strangers. The documentary starts in 1980 New York, where three young men who were all adopted meet each other and find out they’re triplets who were separated at birth. But their quest to find out why turns into a bizarre and sinister mystery. The movie begins at 7:00 pm – admission is $5.00. The documentary series continues next Friday with Miss Representation: a 2011 film about the struggles women go through every day. Each Friday through February 7th will feature a film from the series.

There’s free concert series coming to the campus of Knox College on Saturday, January 11th. The Knox Winter Jazz Series featuring Black Diamond is being held in the Kresge Recital Hall. Black Diamond features tenor saxophonist and bass clarinet player Artie Black and tenor saxophonist Hunter Diamond. In Chicago, the band has been featured in residency at Andy’s Jazz Club, The Drake Hotel, and The Whistler. Other performances include the 2018 Chicago Jazz Festival, and associations with the Jazz Institute of Chicago, Sounds of the City Workshop, and the Chicago Jazz Composers Collective. The concert beings January 11th at Kresge Recital Hall at 7:30 pm. The show is free and open to the public.

The Knox County YMCA Indoor Soccer League begins on Sunday, January 12th. For ages pre-K through 5th grade, the season includes two weeks of practice and four weeks of games. The cost is $33 for Y members and $66 for nonmembers. For more details call the Y at 344-1324.
