Speeding arrest leads to discovery of stolen cell phones

The Knox County Sheriffs Department says one of their deputies pulled over a vehicle driving very fast Wednesday, only to determine the vehicle had a bunch of stolen cell phones.

The Sheriffs Department says it happened in the 1600 block of U.S. Highway 34, where a vehicle was pulled over for going 104 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone.

The deputy allegedly discovered 55 iPhones — mostly iPhone 11’s — along with some phone plan contracts, valued at around $80,000, and were likely obtained through identity theft and fraudulent purchases.

Four people were arrested on felony charges of Possession of Stolen Property and Identity Theft: 32-year-old Henrick Gonzalez of New York State, 22-year-old Jose Veleza of Brooklyn New York, 22-year-old Emily Brown of Pennsylvania, and 21-year-Derek Luntz of Pennsylvania.

All four are being held in the Knox County Jail pending bond hearings.

Gonzalez also faces charges of Speeding and Reckless Driving.
