United Way of Knox County reaches annual fundraising goal

The United Way of Knox County is announcing they met their $350,000 fundraising goal for the year.

The United Way of Knox County is a locally controlled, non-profit governed by a volunteer board of directors that provides support to 22 programs at 18 human service agencies in Knox County.

Director Laun Dunn says that she’s thrilled they could increase or level funding for all their agencies.

But she says United Way does a lot more than just funding.

“There are so many good things happening — as far as our after-school supper program, we are embedded in the community so it helps us to better identify need. And, it helps direct those doner dollars so that we are doing the most good that possibly we can.”

She says that partnering agencies will be getting a boost in funding.

“It just means so much for us to be able to say not only do we see the value in the work they are doing but we’re able to give them a bit of a boost over last year.”

Dunn says by partnering with other local agencies, United Way is able to better recognize the needs of the community.

She says their network of volunteers, including board members, makes the United Way run.

As far as the campaign itself, Dunn says that a significant portion is raised through the workplace campaign, where employees of area employers make ongoing donations.
