Man arrested following incident near school

A Galesburg man is facing some charges after police say he tried to get into a car that wasn’t his near a local school.

Galesburg Police say 31-year-old Matthew Osborn faces charges of Attempted Criminal Trespass to a Vehicle, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Arrest.

Police say officers were called to outside Lombard Middle School just before 1pm Thursday, and determined that Osborn tried to get in the back seat of a vehicle there that was believed to be occupied by a child.

Court records indicate Osborne is scheduled to appear in court later in the month, after being arrested previously on felony drug-related charges in a separate case.

Police say Osborne is believed to suffer from a mental illness and may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the arrest.

Police say there was no threat to the safety of the general public.
