GPD making policy changes due to COVID-19

The Galesburg Police Department has made a number of changes to ensure the health and safety of their staff as well as the ability to provide services to the public in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Public Safety Building lobby will be closed between 5:00 pm and 8:00 am daily. Anyone who needs assistance can call the station at 343-9151 if it is a non-emergency and 911 if it is an emergency.

If there is a custody exchange that occurs at the PSB or you require the presence of an officer, GPD says to call the non-emergency line and an officer will meet you.

Cleaning supplies are being provided to employees in the building and for officers in their squad cars. Also, masks and other protective equipment are available to officers if needed.

Additionally, it was announced Thursday that all non-emergency calls will be handled over the phone when possible.

This update comes as the Knox County Jail changed many of their policies due to the Coronavirus.
