Knoxville man sentenced to 11 years for attempted murder

A Knoxville man was sentenced to 11 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for attempted murder in 2018.

21-year-old Matthew D. Hale plead guilty on Thursday in Knox County Circuit Court to the Class X charge.

Online court records say that Hale was given 689 days of credit for his time in custody during the trial period.

Several other charges were dropped with the plea, including Class X charges of Solicitation/Murder for Hire, Class One charge of Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Murder, and Class Three Aggravated Battery.

Hale was arrested in connection with the June 3 stabbing of Nathan J. Goehl of Galesburg.

Three other people were arrested in connection with the crime. They are Knoxville natives 20-year-old Hayden T. Clark and 21-year-old Bradley P. Detmers as well as 21-year-old Lauren D. Valerius of Davenport, Iowa.

Valerius plead guilty to conspiracy to commit murder in January while Detmers and Clark have pretrial conferences scheduled for June 1.
