One of the questions asked almost every day in Knox County since the COVID-19 pandemic started impacting local residents is finally being answered.
The Knox County Emergency Management Agency and Health Department’s Unified Command says local data seems to indicate that at least 51 percent of confirmed COVID-19 cases are considered to be now in recovery, while two patients are hospitalized.
The data is from the Illinois National Electric Disease Surveillance System. Up to now, despite other Illinois counties continually reporting recovery data, the county has resisted, citing federal health privacy laws.
Now, officials say, the recovery data will only be provided “when patient privacy can be assured.”
The Illinois Department of Public Health is defining “recovery” as resolution of fever without medication for 72 hours, improvement of respiratory symptoms, and at least ten days have passed since symptoms first appeared.

Knox County Monday reported four more cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 80. Warren County reported two more cases, bringing their total to 106.
