During stay-at-home orders this spring, some people took up making banana bread, while others picked up the guitar. James Hetfield of Metallica decided to learn how to make tables.
Hetfield built a pair of one-of-a-kind coffee tables called The Covid Collection by JH, and they’re being raffled off for Metallica’s All Within My Hands. Every $10 donation is one entry, and all proceeds benefit the foundation’s work supporting the welding programs funded by the Metallica Scholars initiative. The contest ends June 30th.
Hetfield’s table collection seems to be a reference to the “I Am the Table” memes that have circulated on the Internet since Hetfield sang that line in “The View” from Lulu, Metallica’s 2011 collaboration with Lou Reed.

During shelter in place, @metallica’s own James Hetfield has used some of his time at home to hone a new creative outlet. He has designed and built a set of handmade end tables, with all the welding and woodwork happening in his own garage. We are raffling them off, and one lucky winner will receive the set, signed and personalized by James! Every $10 donation = 1 entry, and all proceeds benefit #AWMH and our work supporting the welding programs funded by the #MetallicaScholars initiative. Contest ends Tuesday, June 30th.
