Knox County is seeing a significant increase in new cases of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).
The Knox County Health Department says that in the last week, between July 7-13, there have been 29 new cases of the novel viral disease, increasing the county’s total to 178 cases. New cases include 15 cases under age 40, six cases between 40 and 60, and eight cases over 60.
The health department says that the county now has a total positive case county of 178 but they add that 128 of those cases are considered recovered and are no hospitalizations.
Recovery is defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a resolution of fever without medication, improvement of respiratory symptoms, and passage of 10 days since symptoms first appeared.
Public health officials are working to identify and actively monitor individuals who were in direct contact with these residents in an effort to reduce the risk of additional transmission. In a release from the health department, they encourage “all residents to continue wearing cloth face-coverings and practice social distancing when in public, for the health and safety of our community.”
The health department says curbside testing is available and open to anyone, regardless of symptoms or other criteria. An appointment can be scheduled with the health center at 309-344-2225.
For comparison, during that same seven day time period, Warren County reported three new cases of the viral disease.
