Knox County sets new one-week high in COVID-19 cases

After several weeks of seeing Knox County’s number of COVID-19 cases move in a downward trend, health officials Tuesday announced more newly confirmed cases last week than any week since the pandemic began.

The Health Department announced 47 new cases just from Friday to Monday, which is a total of 78 in 7 days.

Testing was not significantly more frequent last week either; there were 742 tests performed, about in line with the last few weeks in which about half of the confirmed cases were reported.

The largest amount of new cases in a week before was 63, set the week of August 18th.

A majority of new cases are younger than 40, and about a quarter are younger than 20.

89 percent of Knox County cases are now considered to be recovered, with 58 still recovering at home, and two who are hospitalized.

About 7 in 10 COVID cases in Knox County are in Galesburg residents.
