Semington named 2019 Officer of the Year from Crime Stoppers

The Galesburg Area Crime Stoppers has announced the 2019 Officer of the Year recipient.

Officer Maggie Semington was given the honor yesterday. The 15 year veteran of the Galesburg Police Department leads the department in proactive patrol activities.

She was nominated for her response to a call of a suicidal subject on the Interstate 74 bridge. The subject was seated on the ledge of the bridge and would not come off.

The release says that as the subject continued to move closer to the edge, Officer Semington “risked her own safety to wrap her arms around the subject and pull them off the ledge.”

The release states that Semington’s actions not only saved the person’s life but also prevented injury to the drivers of the interstate below.

“Officer Semington is a hard-working and committed officer, dedicated to serving the Galesburg community,” stated Chief Russ Idle.
