Galesburg man charged with DUI after brief pursuit

While on routine afternoon patrol Sunday, September 20th, Galesburg Police observed a sedan blow through a stop sign at the intersection of North and Broad Streets. Police attempted to catch up to the vehicle that was traveling at a high rate of speed and observed it blow through another stop sign at the intersection of Water and Kellogg Streets. According to police reports, GPD eventually caught up to the vehicle after it pulled into a residence in the 200 block of North Seminary Street. As police approached the passenger side of the vehicle, the driver, 37-year old Todd Jones Jr. of Galesburg got out of the sedan. Police ordered Jones to sit back down, but he took off running forcing the officer to deploy a taser and placing him under arrest. Jones told police he thought they were someone else and he was being chased. Jones was transported to the Public Safety Building where officers conducted a field sobriety test – in which at one point Jones began dancing during the “Walk and Turn” test. After failing the test, Jones was transported to the Knox County Jail. He’s charged with Driving Under the Influence, Resisting Arrest, and received a citation for disobeying a stop sign.
